Yes, MCPS as a district and your child's school care about these scores. Placement in remedial (despite the official MCPS stance, we do have them), GT, advanced, and honors classes is often influenced by the scores. Kids with low MAP-R scores will be in reading classes as 6th graders and take just one elective rather than 2.

How important are these tests? I had never heard about them until this year though I now know that DC took them in 1st and 2nd grade. I had never had a teacher show me scores until 3rd grade this year. DC's scores stayed flat from fall to winter in both math and reading. I'm not sure if I should be concerned. DC's teachers have reported no issues and the report cards are mostly Ps, a couple Is, and some ESs. Does MCPS care about these scores or is this testing just some bureaucratic requirement?

Also 3x a year in middle school. And it takes roughly one class period to complete. Most students are done much faster than that. We don't even alter our regular schedule for MAP testing. The biggest headache is that other classes can't use the computer labs to work on projects.

I know the kids just had MSA's. Do they also have map-r and map-m in the spring or just the fall?
