My child is in the HGC there. I agree about the test-in component; I'm not sure any of the kids in the HGC are actually from Drew. It's very competitive to get in, and the kids only share classes in specials. My kid has made friends from outside the program so it's not too isolating. The great-school rankings are inflated by the HGC kids in 4th and 5th grades since they're based mostly on test scores. Overall my kid likes it there; I think the new principal is doing a good job. I agree with the previous poster; I think the kids are generally well behaved.

FWIW, I would look at the MS and HS options in the area you're looking at. If they work for you I'd be comfortable with Drew.

The HGC is test-in, so I wouldn't count on your child automatically being a part if it. I was a substitute teacher at Drew a few years ago, and thought the school was nice. I'm not a current parent, but the students were mostly well-behaved and it seemed to be a good learning environment. The arts integration is a plus, especially if your child is artistic.

My kids went to the HGC, but a number of years ago. The HGC teachers were Fantastic! They are still there. Different principal when my kids went, and before 2.0. I know the whole programs is more Humanitites based now, and the Math teachers there were AWESOME, so I don't know. The rest of the school so-so, but we loved the HGC.

Anyone have any direct, recent experience with this elementary? I have a rising kindergartner and am thinking of relocating to this school district. The greatschools rating is a little daunting, but the arts immersion aspect seems interesting and the HGC in the upper grades is attractive.
I would love feedback from anyone who has children at this school.
Thanks!
