Acne has nothing to go with exfoliating or cleaning one's face.
It is hormonal and hereditary.

A prescription medication is the most efficient, as long as it is administered properly and side effects are explained.

My tween DD's skin is way too sensitive to be brushed, even a washcloth reddens her cheeks. Our ped also cautioned against daily sunblock if I was not supplementing with vitamin D. The only thing I know for sure with beauty treatments is that no one thing works for everyone.

Sunscreen on their face daily is probably contributing to outbreaks....

Yeah, I'd worry about that. And depending on the moisturizer, that could make things worse, too.

Sounds like a cheap version of those Clairsonic brushes.

I would make sure they use an oil free moisturizer with SPF on their face and neck every day. I'm 35 and wrinkle free - my generation looks so much better at 30-40 than my mom's when I look back at pictures. I think it's the sunscreen in most cosmetics.

That's really interesting about the brush. Never thought of trying that. I am a big believer in exfoliating, though. I think I might give this a try.

I've never thought of this. Will have to file it away for DD in a few years. DH and I both had acne when whit puberty- I'm sure DD will need all the help she can get.

Sunblock should start as soon as babies are old enough. You absolutely shouldn't wait until your DC is a tween.

We've already had a few skin outbreaks with the 11 year olds and I anticipate more as they get full swing into adolescence.
They say they wash their faces in the shower each morning and one is doing it at night but they don't like using a scrubby on their faces and say a wash cloth is bulky and not working either.

So I went to Dollar store and bought two different sets of infant comb/brush sets for them. Once chose Pooh Bear and the other got Tigger. I remember using a soft baby brush for my own face and chest when I was a teen and it worked really well. I told them not to scrub and be rough but squirt a bit of their facial cleanser into the brush and gently make circular motions to exfoliate dead skin and thoroughly wash their faces. I know they are using them regularly.

I also encourage them to use lotion on their bodies and moisturizer on their faces after shower. i don't think it is too soon to encourage sun block either.

Maybe your teen or tween would find a baby brush useful too.
