Congratulations!

Now hire someone to do it. Someone at the firm may have recommendations.

Thanks for all the responses so far. It's an S-Corp. He's got a modest amount of shares in the firm. He got a W-2. Was made partner around June.

I was an English major. This stuff gives me hives!!

When I was a junior partner at a Biglaw firm, we were required to have our taxes prepared by one of the major accounting firms because of the complexity of the firm operating in several states/locations. Turbo tax cannot handle this. Your dh should see if there is a particular accounting firm that his law firm typically works with.

Is it an S-Corp or a partnership? Equity or income partner? Did he get a k-1 or w-2? Depending on when he made partner in 2013 and if he gets a k-1 you should have been paying estimated taxes, including state.

Agree on filing the extension and getting a professional to help, but be aware that you have to have paid your taxes by 4/15 so you will want to do some kind of estimate, or be willing to pay the penalties/interest.

In the past I've done our VERY simple taxes using TurboTax. I know nothing about S-corps or anything complicated. For months DH was supposed to get me the name of the accountant his colleagues use, but of course he didn't do that until last night. Naturally the guy is unavailable this late in the game. Now after I've called around to a couple other places, I'm getting the same response: too late to the party.

Can I do these taxes myself with TurboTax? Other suggestions for where to go to get the taxes done? His firm will pay the tax preparer, so cost-saving is not an issue. The issue is finding someone reliable to do them at this late date. Thanks!

I was in that situation at another firm. You don't want to try those yourself with TurboTax. He'll be getting a K-1 that shows income in multiple states. Very complex.

I'd suggest finding an accountant to file now for an extension until October. I've used David Graling at Gelman Rosenberg, and he seems like he knows what he's doing. I'm sure there are others too.

I would file an extension and hire an accountant.

DH was made partner at his firm in 2013. Apparently he has to file in several states (every state where the firm has an office). Our taxes are otherwise very simple. No real property, no complicated deductions, no complicated investments.
