Upstate Ny 27-30 kids late 70's early 80's. I just don't get the hype around here. Up to 30 seems normal from my childhood.

36 in catholic school.

Catholic school mid 80's in Boston and we graduated 39 from grade 8. One teacher who alternated with 7th grade teacher for specials. We all went to Catholic high schools and at least 7 of us went on to Ivy League colleges.

Dcps, john eaton. 25 to 30 kids. No aides. But we did have pe, art, music, etc taught by others. The fifth and sixth grade girls who wanted to and did well in school would sometimes help out in the lower grades, particularly with lunchtime, recess, and reading groups. We were called lunchaides, which I loved being, and I also worked with a first grade reading group for supplemental reading practice a few times a week.

Wow, where was this? I know you've bent over backwards not to say, but I had to ask. Sounds great.

Excellent public school in a well-to-do suburb of a big city. 19-20 students per class throughout elementary. I don't recall any aides. We had a music teacher, Spanish teacher, science teacher, teacher who did pull outs for gifted math and language arts, art teacher, computer lab teacher. This was in the mid and late 80s.

Smallest class in elementary was 38 kids. Sometimes we had 40. This was Catholic school late 70s/early 80s. One teacher, no aide although one reading class got pulled out for extra help some days. We spent a lot of time practicing handwriting.

Always over 30 kids, usually 32 kids. No teacher's aides. It was chaos. I hated school. Kids have it made these days.

28-30 kids, catholic school, small town an hour outside big city

My mother just passed away and we were looking through some old pictures. She taught kindergarten and 1st grade in rural northwestern Iowa in the late 1940's and 1950's. There were several pictures of her classes. ALL of the pictures had 30-35 children. No aide, no specials- she did music, art and PE. We were surprised at the size of the classes.

Always around 18 students but I went to a fancy international school.

Never more than 18 students in elementary. Early to mid 80's.

I was in elementary school in the late 70s/early 80's and I remember my classes always having more than 30 students. Wondering what was typical for others.
