We are a simple case; filing jointly, mortgage, one child, no businesses, and no retirement (don't judge, this is another topic for a another thread). HHI $175,000 if that matters.

We have already decided on a CPA vs. H&R block, but I could be convinced otherwise.

You will probably never have money to save for retirement if you do things like spending $350+ on a CPA when you could use TurboTax.

I think $350 is pretty reasonable. This is for Fed and state both, correct? H&R Block would probably run you $250 for both for simple returns.

Do people who use turbotax have stuff like capital gains and dividends and charitable donations? I'm afraid I'd screw it up.

$600, which I think is a lot. We have an out of state rental property, I'm an independent contractor, we just bought a house. DH keeps saying he'll just use turbo tax, but never does. . .

I would just do turbotax - just as easy as using a guy.

For you, OP, sounds like all you need is TurboTax. That's $55 not on sale, I think.

I pay 750.00. We have some rental properties in different states and my wife does some on the side consulting so its worth it to me.

We've never paid someone before, Turbo Tax has always sufficed, but this year seemed complicated enough that we decided to pay someone. We sold a house, bought a house, and in the process liquidated some stock and will have to pay capital gains. Plus we have a nanny and will have to file a Schedule H (though that's not new and isn't that complicated).

All of that said, we were quoted $300.
