Which would be great if such fields offered jobs that enabled one to earn enough to pay rent in a major Eastern city.

Most Catholic schools (grade school not independent high schools) fall at the absolute bottom of the school heap, under publics and privates. They tend to have terrible teacher-student ratios. The instruction is sub par and there is religious dogma coloring the academics. The facilities are poor and old. Just a bad choice all around.

The privates here are excellent-they are just way too expensive, and most Catholics are difficult to get into unless you are a diocese member. For girls, catholic school options narrow significantly for HS-I am not sure if it's supply or demand, or both, but it is an issue here.

If you can't afford private school, you can't afford it.

Catholics don't have the kids at the bottom of the class in public, which pushes up their average scores/level of rigor. However, they also have large class sizes, and some use outdated curriculum and techniques. The big regret that my Catholic school grad friends have is the lack of rigor and critical thinking in their classes.

Ok, sucks is a bit strong but not worth the money AT ALL. Not at all impressed. Really, unless you can afford it 100% and still save for retirement, etc i think public/charter is the way to go.
