yes they do figure out, for example, if you are better off with a standard deduction or itemized (or sales tax vs income tax). I think they probably would do MFJ vs MFS but a) 99% of the time MFJ will be better and b) if for some reason it doesn't do it automatically, I think you could probably just save one version and go back and change that one option it will rerun the numbers
