We have disconnected our ice maker. An appliance repair person told us that even with filters and constant use the small water supply line becomes clogged with algae and some of it gets into the ice. Using ice cube trays is small task compared to endangering health

The water was stagnant in pipes before it froze. You dump three full drawers of ice and it should start tasting fine. Try to also put baking soda in the freezer to absorb whatever else from your frozen food.

We just moved to a new house and finally have a refrigerator with an ice maker. Unfortunately the ice tastes so terrible I cannot use it. Just tried it in a diet cola and even that wasn't enough to mask the gross taste. I don't think the water is the problem, since I can drink from the tap without it bugging me. Any ideas?
