Yes, that was my experience too. My pre-2.0 kid was supposed to know their math facts -- but the math class never drilled the math facts; making sure the kids learned their math facts was their parents' job. It's actually better with my 2.0 kid, who is getting lots of math facts drills in class.

My kids were under the old math. It was really no different. We bought flash cards and quizzed them till they know them.

My kids are in 1st and 3rd grade. Both teachers have recently stated in email to the parents that "math facts" (addition for the 1st grader and mulitplication for the 3rd grader) will be assessed this month, and that parents are expected to work on them with their children. However, there have been no resources provided in order to do this, other than, "there are lots of fun games on the internet out there." Futhermore, none of the kids' work has shown any evidence on working on these math facts in school, at least within the last month. The first grader has been doing measurement and the 3rd grader, fraction concepts.
Prior to C 2.0, my then 1st grader was given a packet of math games and flashcards by her teacher. Then, at least, parents knew where to start. And the games were actually pretty useful.
I'm peeved. What little homework the kids have received have been those silly metacognition questions like, "how do you know that 2 is greater than 1?" While I appreciate the focus on math concepts, I don't feel like my kids are mastering math facts at all. They are counting on fingers or by multiples.
So are we supposed to go to Barnes and Noble and buy workbooks, now? Make flash cards and scour the internet for decent math games (there are more bad than good, from what I've seen)? I don't have a degree in education. Why should I have to re-invent the wheel?
Has anyone else experienced this?
Or maybe I should be more construtive and ask, does anyone know any good websites/games for math facts?
