Metro is more stroller friendly, but worse than the tube in every other category. I think you will want a car shortly after arriving.

With that budget I would say AU Park, CCDC, Cleveland Park - you can get good space, a decent house, and metro access.

Yes, absolutely stroller friendly.

It's not that hard to be car free in DC, or to have a car but use it rarely.

I'd think about school options for K and up when choosing a neighborhood. Are you planning to be around that long? What are your thoughts as far as school -- public? private?

Logan Circle or Penn Quarter. No need for a car, but you may get a zipcar membership.

OP here. Metro stations - Farragut West and Federal Triangle - work and preschool respectively. We're looking to rent in the short term. Looking for 3 bedrooms, budget upto $4,000 a month. Is that realistic? We're moving from London. So used to walking everywhere and using public transport. Also won't have a car initially.

What you want to spend is key if you want helpful answers, OP.

Are you renting or looking to buy? What is your budget for either? Are you thinking public or private school for the long term?

It really depends on your preferences. There are lots of great neighborhoods with an easy commute to downtown. I live on Capitol Hill and DH often walks to his downtown job (I commute out of town, unfortunately). The Hill is a great place to raise kids, too. But there are plenty of others--I'm naturally partial to my own.

Where downtown will your spouse be working? Have you been to wmata.com? If we know the nearest Metro stop, your budget, and whether you need two bedrooms or three, we'll have more to go on.

How much money do you have to spend?

DH will be working in downtown and 4-year old DD has a spot in a preschool in downtown. I plan to be a SAHM for a while as I also have a younger baby. Which neighbourhood would be ideal for us as a family and an easy commute to downtown? Are there any nice neighbourhoods within walking distance of downtown? Else are there any I could easily commute from with a baby in a stroller (not sure whether buses or metros are stroller friendly?)
