I have been twice and the Yucatan in general is very safe. Biggest bogie is negotiating all the time share people at the airport. If you have transportation arranged from the airport you are good to go.

Just got back with two kids and felt very safe. Arrange transportation from your hotel and then stay there.

I would just boycott Mexico until they get their act together.

Very safe. I was all over the peninsula in January driving with my family and never once felt unsafe.
