They count for credit and in the MoCo GPA..though some PP have noted colleges may calculate the GPA differently. All languages also count the same way.

So does the middle school algebra & geometry class count as credits for high school? Or are just the grades used in the GPA? This is confusing...

It's information: colleges are known to recalculate GPAs and when doing so, some do not include MS grades. That's all.

Every college sets their own criteria. As a PP pointed out, some only calculate GPA based on high school academic grades. Some colleges, take the MCPS non-weighted GPA which will include high school classes taken in middle school. Don't know if any colleges will except MCPS weighted GPA. College application criteria can also change over time.

Colleges also look at trends in grades. The MCPS transcript does reflect the year the credits were earned and thus, colleges can tell if grades were from middle school. A upward trend in which a student gets higher grades as he/she matured through high school is a positive attribute, whereas, a downward trend in grades overtime is a negative.

That is very interesting..I didn't know that.

These colleges specifically indicated that grades had to come from high school years for the re-calculation (there was no way to enter a grade from middle school). I think this was for Univ of California schools and Univ of Georgia. Many other colleges say they re-calculate GPA but don't tell you the methodology.

Fabulous!! That's what it should be! Thank you for sharing!!

So Geometry is listed as Honors Geometry. Is all Algebra in middle school considered honors, too? Foreign language was not offered as honors -- so I assume that is unweighted.
I realize no college is really going to care what grade she got in 8th grade but the intense focus on GPA.

Grades were good and I realize it is middle school and I sound CRAZY but the high school presentation discussed weighted grades, etc. and then ...

1) Do the foreign language and algebra on up math classes taken in middle school get calculated into high school GPA or just for high school credit?
2) Are they weighted the same as high school credits?

New to all this so grateful for any insight. Thank you!
