We recently moved from Georgia to the DC area. We ended up going with a local mover from GA that was willing to do long distance.
The best advice I can give is be very careful. At least 80% of the companies I called (or called me) were total scams. You can't even trust online reviews- they pay people to write glowing reviews on a variety of sites. Do not to give your contact info to a moving broker- they will call you non-stop! If you can't find a reputable local company to move you I'd stick to the big brand name movers (Allied, Mayflower, etc.)
Finding movers was easily the most frustrating thing I experienced in the last year- good luck!!

We've use Moovers inc 2 times. Once to move from SF to NYC, and the second time to move from NYC to DC. Both times they were very easy to work with. No problems at all. http://www.mooversinc.com/
