McKinley is great, but just make sure to double check the boundary map if you are buying a house specifically to be in McKinley because the elementary school boundaries are all shifting a bit in the 2015 school year. Madison Manor might be a better place to look if you want to be sure that you stay in McKinley. (That said, the other area elementary schools are also great so it might not be that big of a deal.) You can find the proposed boundary changes on the APS website.

Lacey woods is the park within Lacey Forest. I live here and use them interchangebly. Its no big deal. just search 22205

That's a really great area, OP - tons of families, great schools, can get to DC easily, the park is nice and you've got Westover right there. You've got Chestnut Hills park not too far away if you get bored of Lacey park.

we live here and LOVE IT! It really has a nestled, community feel. TONS of lil ones and older kids! There is no down side to this neighborhood..houses are mostly the same asthetic, sidewalks, close to target!!

How on my block, 22205, is for sale in the mid 600s. It is a 2 or 3 bedroom Sears home near Swanson. Great neighbors.

It is a nice neighborhood. People in parks are friendly. If you can walk to Westover on Sunday mornings you can get doughnuts and fresh veggies for the week. I find people to be not so pretentious. A nice balance of 2-income families and down to Earth SAHMs.

Toby's ice cream is great. Westover Beer Garden is very good. The library is gorgeous.

farmer's market, library, 3 parks, bike trail, at least 5 pre-schools, and the Italian Store is coming to town

The trail is great, and it is super close to bluemont park, the rose garden, Pupatella, westover, etc. it is a great place to live.

My husband I live nearby with a 3 year old and a 7 month old . There are a number of young families!!! Come join us.

How is this general parenting related?

My husband and I (and our 3 kids) are thinking of purchasing a house in the Lacey Woods area of Arlington. My oldest will be starting Kindergarten this fall, and we've heard great things about McKinley. Are there a lot of young families in that area? It seems like a nice area with the park and trail so close. I would appreciate any feedback about the neighborhood. Thanks.
