I disagree--do Athens for a day or two first and save the best for last. If you go to Santorini first, you are sure to be disappointed by Athens. And if you aren't a big history buff, maybe skip Athens entirely for more island time.

If u go to Crete go to chania, though rethymno is also beautiful. But the water can be rough. I don't know, to visit Greece & not see santorini...that is the most beautiful place on the planet. Just like a postcard.

We went to Athens and Monemvassia in a week. That place was amazing.

agree. Also, I think if you are really into history, etc. that you would enjoy the island of Crete.

Yup. I wouldn't even bother with Athens. Change planes in Athens and go directly to Crete. It is an amazing place.

Another voter for Crete. Gorgeous.

Was there for 7 days 3 weeks ago. Spent all 7 in Athens and that was my only regret. Put 3-4 in Athens and the rest on an island or somewhere country-side.

That said, Athens in February is MUCH cheaper...

Agree with Athens and one Island. We did Athens and 2 islands in 10 days for our honeymoon.

August - of course the most expensive month - but I am now coming to realize that I don't enjoy travelling to the mountains with the in-laws, so why fake it.

You can do a short cruise to Poros/Aegina/Hydra. Or fly to somewhere like Santorini or Mykonos. Fabulous. You won't be sorry.

Enjoy every minute.

When are you going?

I agree--Athens plus one island.

Has anyone gone as far as Greece for only 7 days? I'm boycotting the family trip to the mountains this year and looking to travel to Greece on the cheap. Is this too short of a trip? I'm looking to immerse myself in the culture. Thanks!
