Yeah. A trainer would only be helpful if the puppy was still extremely nippy after teething--like a year or older. This is something you deal with with any of the strategies outlined above, until they grow out of it.

Yelp like a puppy being nipped by a liter mate. And of course pull away. Don't go with ouch, which sounds like a bark to a dog. Saying ouch is good when you want to startle the dog, like if they are chewing a favorite shoe.

The spray bottle might help. Also saying "no bites," shoving a chew toy into their mouth, etc. I know this is not what you want to hear while you are going through it, but it will go away.

Agree with this. They don't like it but it doesn't harm them, it's just annoying to them. Make sure to give a loud grunt noise (I can't explain it). Do not give a dog toy or treat after because she will think it's a good thing. Just ignore her for a bit. When calm, and you interact again, give a belly rub or what not.

Not the OP but my puppy is the same. This is really damn tiresome. Every time I let my guard down, she nips -- I have eleven minor cuts on my hands at the moment.

I still love her, though.

It's the teething stage for dogs. Unfortunately, the "milk" teeth hurt like hell.

You need to stuff a dog toy in her mouth every time she lunges for you. Make sure she gets plenty of exercise. This is a phase that dogs do grow past, so hitting the dog will not train her just scar her. Not sure how old your kid is, but they your DD can't be alone with the dog until she's past this stage. It will happen. Patience. Don't give up on your dog.

I grab the puppy by the nose and say "NO! No biting!" in a very stern voice. They don't like being grabbed the nose. Then I give the puppy something else to chew on.

She will outgrow it, BTW. It's exhausting until it gets better, though.

I am ready to try some old fashioned techniques. Positive discipline isn't working. She is 6 months old. Bites me on calf or butt when my back is turned. Same to dd. Sometimes it seems she is just trying to get attention but I just don't care anymore. She breaks the skin every other day. She doesn't do it to DH. How do I get this to stop ASAP?
Btw dog is not treat motivated.
