I buy at the NY Avenue place every year. Just yesterday I was wondering if it was opened for the season. Good selection (nothing too exotic if thats what you are looking for) and good condition. Very cheap too, even cheaper than home depot.

I got there every once in a while. ok quality, but definitely more expensive than other places.

I don't know about the quality of their plants, but I love spotting all the spelling errors in their signs as I drive past.

Thanks. We did do some containers last year but that still leaves all our beds (think small patio back of DC rowhouse with beds on 3 sides) basically empty with the exception of two rose buses that aren't doing too well & don't take up that much space. So I want to just make it look ok ..... guess I could do the containers & put them in the beds!

If your yard is mostly shaded, I would go for some annuals like impatiens.

Sounds like you've had good luck with wherever you buy from .... would you recommend them? And if so, who are they?

I bought some plants there one year and wasn't impressed with the quality. You are better off going to the Home Depot on RI.

I went to that NY Ave store a few years ago and will never go back. Seemed to be a front for something, staff appeared to be on drugs, and a police officer came looking for someone who had a warrant out. I wasn't even there long.

Has anyone ever been to the garden center (basically an outside little fenced parking lot) on New York Ave? I'm wondering about the quality and price of their plants ...

also, anyone buy plants (not seeds) online? We have a few beds (mostly shady) that I want to plant this year but don't want to spend a lot of money on b/c 1) we're renting; & 2) our dog tends to dig if he gets out.

Any suggestions welcome. TIA
