Life is so expensive now. Everything seems to be pay as you go until you can't afford it anymore.

They will probably cash flow as much as possible then go with loans for the rest or pull from savings/ investments. Or maybe their children won't go private for college. Who knows. I am sure they know the cost. It isn't exactly a secret.

We plan on paying for college and grad schools. Attended Ivies and hope for the same for DC and yeah, know how much it costs. No problem. Thanks for your concern though.

My parents didn't pay a thing for any of my three degrees. I went into it knowing that. Not everyone has parents to throw their money at them.

Or the kids can borrow the remaining $30k - that's what I did. It's not the end of the world assuming the kid will get a degree in something that allows him to get a job after graduation. Not a bad way to give the kid some incentive to do well.

I'm sure they know. And it may be that another $30k a year is not an issue for them. I did save for college (with one in and one about to go) but I could have paid college tuition out of cash flow if we needed to.

Honestly, I've heard of MANY successful awesome people that were told by their parents that they need to find a way to pay for college. Many of them did.
My parents wouldn't only pay for college if it was a state school. Because they only had so much money. That is exactly what we are telling our kids. We will pay x (state school tuition) and you come up with the rest if you want to go elsewhere.

Yes, they know what they cost.
But you sound very concerned.

Not all parents even pay for college. Not your business.

I know a lot of private school parents who admit to not saving anything for college but rather plan to cash flow it. Don't they get that private schools are up to 65k a year? As most DC privates are in the 30k range, I think they are in for a rude awakening.
/Brought to you by a convo with a private school parent today who thinks taking multiple expensive vacations is more important than putting money aside for their kids' college funds. I'm honestly not trying to be judgmental (well ok maybe a little) but more concerned that they just don't know what top schools cost.
