I'm from Mew England and prefer Grade B. I get it at Trader Joes.

I'm from New England and it is a point of pride there to say you think Grade B is better. Kind of little saying you only drink scotch neat. But it's really personal preference I find Grade B to to be far too strong.

We buy ours in a cream colored opaque jug at the farmer's market. My parents bring us a quart or half gallon from Ohio twice a year. However I've seen the same jugs at markets in the DC area - they just say "Maryland maple syrup" instead of "Ohio" and usually have a sticker of the farm it is actually from.

Grade A is typically lighter in color and flavor than Grade B. Grade A is typically used at the table where as Grade B is typically used for cooking and baking. That said, DH is from New England and prefers to have Grade B for everything. It's all about personal preference.

I agree, Grade B has the strongest flavor. I've found it at Trader Joe's--it's in a bottle shaped like a wine bottle.

How can you tell a good quality maple syrup?

We buy ours in cans at the grocery store in Canada in the summer--I always think we have enough to make it through the year but that's never the case. But here, the Costco stuff is pretty good. I also greatly prefer Grade B syrup, which I've seen at Harris Teeter and almost nowhere else.

You don't need organic maple syrup. They aren't spraying maple trees with crap. Just saying...buy a good quality brand. I usually buy mine at MOM, and there are some local (Pensylvania, I think is closest, since the mid Atlantic isn't exactly maple sugaring territory) brands.

Costco or Trader Joe's.

As long as it's real maple syrup, not that Mrs. butterworts crap, you are good to go. I've found good stuff at Costco and Christmas Tree Shoppe.

Pls recommend your favorite maple syrup, good quality and good price, preferably organic.
