Because I teach my kid to be part of a community and give back to that community. I get out of the way of ambulances, and recycle, and vote for things that don't directly benefit me, and I'm raising my kid to do the same.

Thanks for this. I totally hate excessive standardized testing, but these are some of the reasons why I'll grin and bear it while it's part of the system (and take my arguments to the principal rather than letting my kid think they're an exception to the rule).

It is always funny to me how the DC CA's is great for proving how some students are failing but is waste of time for the dcum kids. Also didn't they switch to the parcc assessment or did that get pushed back

Or that one year that the CAS coincided with Take Your Daughter to Work Day. Much panicking was done at my school that year.

The school has a plan for kids like yours to make up the test. While they try to have best-possible attendance, and it's a bit annoying to chase after kids to make up the tests (they have to use alternate spaces, etc.), it always happens -- kids do get sick, etc., even during DC CAS.

They can't just randomly allow a child a make-up a DC CAS test whenever they want, it has to be on a specific day/time etc. Schools have to submit a testing plan, including the make-up dates, to OSSE in advance. Also, there are issues of who will administer and/or proctor the test. If parents want children to opt out then that is a whole other issue.

They will allow your child to make up the test. They won't be happy about it, but they will make allowances because THEY care about the test. The CAS is the test that schools use to evaluate effective teaching.

Doesn't matter what we think--I'll bet you that the school thinks it's a big deal.

I want to pull my DS out of school for a personal event on 4/4 (he has not missed a day of school this year). Unfortunately this is during DC CAS.

Anyone ever miss a day during DC CAS? Is it a big deal?
