I miscarried this past fall and ever since then I have had the opposite problem-- extremely watery periods. My pad gets water soaked-- in red blood. Almost no clots at all. It was a clear and sudden change after my D&C but two REs I have seen are both completely unconcerned and one even told me, nicely, that I need to get over it (I kept on bringing it up). I am certain that something has changed, but even Google has failed me with a possible answer.

My cloth periods were related to uterine polyps, which also affect fertility by interfering with implantation. I've had to have them removed twice, so they can come back.

Clotty periods are one of the sign of endometriosis, a medical condition that impact fertility in so many ways.

I developed clotty periods too as I got older and I had two chemicals (5 weeks.) Started taking aspirin daily and the periods seemed better and I'm pregnant.

Thanks ladies! I've done acupuncture a few years back for shoulder/neck pain.....and never consistently. I always liked it though. I'm still waiting for my period to come back but even before I got pregnant it was always a painful affair. I know this will help, thanks for the reminder/gentle push. I'm in MOCO but can travel, does anyone have a good acupuncturist that they can recommend?

Third acupuncture. I went into it with low expectations (was basically trying anything and everything) and was surprised when my cycles changed. Started to see the (tmi!) bright red fresh blood they say you should have. Was super surprised when my cramps disappeared. I had awful ones (maxed out on ibuprofen each month, even called 911 once). After a few months of acu they just went away. I was shocked, to say the least.

Second the recommendation for acupuncture. It didn't do anything to help me conceive, but it did improve my periods!

According to chinese medicine, I have seen 2 different practitioners, periods should be fresh red blood to nurture the baby.. I used to have dark clotty painful periods. Acupuncture and eating better changed my periods.

I have wondered the same thing. I've had clotty periods in the last 5-6 years. Been TTC for over three years. Several rounds of IUI and IVFs. All BFNs. I've wondered what the clotty periods indicate in terms of reproductive health. I've asked a couple of REs and they've said it's nothing to be concerned about but I still wonder.

OP here, I forgot to mention that I did have a polyp removed but it seemed like my periods were still clotty afterwards - however now I'm getting a little fuzzy about that since I got pregnant about 2 months later.

I had a large polyp in my uterus that caused cloth periods and definitely impacted fertility. It was discovered through an HSG.

I recently had a miscarriage and have been trying to do some research about causes....which I know is pretty futile! But I did come across some stuff about clotty periods. I've had them my whole life (larger than a size of a quarter, sorry TMI) and never thought anything of it. And none of the gynos I saw ever asked about my period. I have my follow up appointment with my RE in a few weeks before I start trying again and will ask him about it. Just was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and if this is something I should be concerned about.
