True. Although this information can probably be found online so you can prepare. If you're traveling with small children, ask for help for when you get off the plane (ask when you check in though). i did this recently as a I was traveling with a baby alone and since we had a total of 20 hrs of travel, I had a lot of stuff (carry on, diaper bag, stroller, car seat, baby) and the help was a lifesaver.

Kids are12 and 14.

Miami is a pretty easy airport to get around (at least compared to JFK!) and there is a tram between gates. I've made connections in 45 min before so as long as you pack well and hustle, you should be ok.

We fly JKF to Miami to Cayman. Will the checked bags get on the plane on time?

I think that's fine. You should let your flight attendants know when you're boarding in JFK that when you land in Miami you'll only have 55 minutes. They can do things to help you like:

1. Moving your seats closer to the plane exits
2. Getting you off the plane first
3. Letting your Miami to Grand Cayman plane know you're running from another gate and to wait for you.
4. If your Miami-bound plane is delayed, re-booking you on another flight smoothly.

Miami is a pretty easy airport to get around (at least compared to JFK!) and there is a tram between gates. I've made connections in 45 min before so as long as you pack well and hustle, you should be ok.

We are flying from JFK to Grand Cayman. We have a stop over in Miami, it's only 55 minutes. Is that enough time? We plan to have checked bags.
