Are any of your siblings still back in India? My SIL was able to add her parents to her health insurance plan she had through work. We offered to pay the increase in monthly premiums for having them on her plan, which wasn't much of course.

My understanding is that working people can generally add their parents to their health insurance plans in India - seems common. I'd try that first. If not, then I'd ask around for plans you can buy into directly.

Try one of the Indian forums. You might actually get useful advice as opposed to some of the half-witted comments here.

Wonderful. Sarcasm.

However, it does not work with Indian parents because they come here sponsored by their kids and part of this legal process is that the kids are responsible for all medical insurance.

Now, if they were illegal immigrants they could at least use the emergency services of a hospital? Or am I mistaken?

MUST we encourage this shit? Aren't our ERs filled enough for you?

The OP is not encouraging this shit. I am pointing out that if OP is buying health insurance for his mom who is visiting here, or who is living in India, he is in no way misusing medicare, medicaid or ER in this country. Infact, he is spending his own money to look after his mom - maybe an alien concept to many in this country.

However, medicare, medicaid and ER is misused by many people here, people with low SES, illegal immigrants, and people with no insurance. So, before you make yet another crack at a poster who is Indian (as is very common on DCUM) - get your facts correct.

NP here - I used to tutor a boy whose mother would take him to the emergency room frequently for issues as simple as a cold or allergies. She wasn't here illegally, but she had a very small income. It was clear she wasn't paying for the emergency-room visits, and I got the impression public assistance was involved.

My conclusion is this is more proof our health care system is really a mess. Many people using expensive services don't do so out of choice, they seem to do so because they have limited options, and that's what's available and covered.

Do you want travel medical insurance to cover her while she visits you in the US or insurance for her while living in India?

My mother lives in India ( Bangalore) and is around 65 yrs old. She has no health issues, by Gods grace. I am looking for names of health insurance providers, with competitive rates and great benefits that I can have her enrolled under . Any reccomendations?
