A friend of mine has one - it's a really sweet dog and is good with kids. Like all dogs, good training is important. They do tend to have weight issues, so she keeps it on strict diet and minimal people food. They're smart and can get into trouble if you don't keep them occupied & exercised. They also shed a lot. It will bark when people come to the door or sometimes when people walk by the house, but I wouldn't call it a yappy dog.

Had a friend with a Corgi and it was an incredibly sweet, quiet dog. I think if you're dedicated to proper training, most dogs are great.

Corgis are yappy. We pass by a house with one on our dog walking route.

Plus the yappy unleashed corgis nipped at our leashed bigger dog and almost got their throat torn open. No love for corgis. Don't do that to your sweet GSD.

Dachshund were bred to chase badgers and weasals, not corgis (hence the name "badgerhound"). Corgis are herding dogs.

They are working dogs and herded cattle. Neighbors have a few of them and they are not friendlies ... but they are loyal to their family , deeper bark than a yap, and always vigilant. Very practical sturdy dogs. Far easier to deal with than terriers and hounds. Calm indoors and patrol outside and were easy puppies for house and obedience training.

We actually have fostered another GSD and we found that two ~100 pound (well, 100 and 75) dogs were a bit much for our tiny 900 sq ft house. We have about a 1/2 acre yard, but it gets crowded in our bedroom and living room, so we've been thinking about a smaller dog. I hate yappy dogs and am a sucker for the pointy ears of shepherds, so it looks like a corgi would be awesome.

Oops, quote fail!

Also I have been around a few corgis and they usually have deep barks, not yaps? I could be wrong?

I have a German Shepherd and want another dog. I have always thought corgis are adorable. I don't think many breeds can phase me having raised a GSD, but I'd like to hear anecdotes about your corgi. What do you love and hate about them?
