Love YNAB. The reports aren't as robust as Quicken, and it isn't designed to keep track of some things that Quicken does. However, for me it is far easier to keep up with, and I find myself constantly referring to it on the go (love that there is an app).

Use Quicken is you want a record of where your money went. Use YNAB if you want to tell your money where to go.

I've used both; now I only use YNAB.

I also second You Need a Budget. I have been using Quicken for 15 years and it is great as an account ledger and to reconcile accounts, but it never really helped me budget.

I have just started YNAB and it really makes me account for everything that we spend. And I am planning for all the once a year bills that usually make me scramble. Now I have a plan. Right now I am using them both, because I just can't let go of Quicken.

We use YNAB and love it. But I understand the features/strengths of the program are somewhat different from Quicken.

+1. Would be lost without it.

But you have to be diligent, downloading your transactions and/or entering them. It isn't all magic.

Can anyone share their experiences with Quicken for keeping track of finances? We currently don't use anything but feel we need to start. Thx.
