I suspect that most camps in MoCo are aware of the snow situation and will prorate for kids in school - or change their start dates.

If you're doing a camp outside MoCo, then don't expect that flexibility.

Some kids love sleepover camp and beg their parents to go for as long as possible.

+1 Some people just need their kids out of their way, even if it means shipping them off the day school ends.

I can't imagine them going in to the next week for just the 1/2 day. I would not change any summer plans for that.
Meanwhile Arlington builds in 100 extra instructional hours in the school year above the required, has not used them up yet but is stil making up days (using teacher work days I think rather than the end of the year). This to me shows a much higher level of commitment to the kids then MoCo.

What a weird response. The PPs kid is in MCPS, not Groton or Andover. So presumably the kid comes home each and every day of the school year. Summer sleepaway camp is a pretty normal occurrence for kids at some point during their childhood. Mine has done boy scout camps, CTY residential camps, sports camps, and foreign exchange programs. Being away for 1-5 weeks in the summer means I spent the other 51-47 weeks with said kid.

Right now, students are going to June 17. I don't think anyone knows when it will end if we get a waiver. The last two days were called during a state of emergency, which may make it easier to get a waiver for those two days. But who knows.

I agree with PP, send them to camp, as long as the camp is up and running. I don't know if camps will push back their start dates. Some might have to if they are using school facilities.

Which county are you in? For MCPS, here are the answers:

-if there is no waiver, the last day of school will be Tuesday, June 17

-if there is a waiver for two days (the two that were states of emergency), the last day of school will be Friday, June 13

-if there is a waiver for all three days that are currently beyond the snow-day limit, the last day of school will be as scheduled, Thursday, June 12.

if they do make up, it is only one or two days. Not a big deal.

Why don't you just make plans using the original end of school date? If they extend the school year, just send your kid to camp/day care. He or she won't miss a hell of a lot on a make up day anyway. No need for you to stress yourself out over this!

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I can't plan summer camp/day care for this! I know it's uncertain, I know some of the closings may have been unnecessary, I just want a date!
