OP, are you married to my husband? Mine will go to the minute clinic for a sore throat after weeks of complaining, but I can't get him to a physical or a doctor. I am 6 years younger and have had two colonoscopies because of family history. We have little kids. He promises he'll go, but won't. At least I got him to the dentist after 15 years!!!

I see I have company. DH is one of five kids. Every one of them but him have had colonoscopies, and they've all had to have polyps removed. He's cancelled three colonoscopies over the past few years and won't schedule one now because he "has too much on his plate"

No recommendations here but just want to commiserate. My DH hasn't been to a doctor OR dentist in about 20 Years. He is 51 and we have a 10 y.o. I can't figure out why he is so resistant either. He doesn't know what his cholesterol or bp numbers are, has never had colonoscopy, oh, and did I mention....his family is FULL of cancer and heart disease. His father and brother are very compliant patients and go in regularly for check ups. Oh, and he has a "Cadillac" health plan that pays for everything. Can't figure it out other than to assume its a mysterious "guy thing" although clearly some guys are good about going in regularly like the PP.

I'm a 35yr old male. My Blue Cross plan offers free yearly physicals. I've been getting one since I was 30. It offers a bit of piece of mind and lets me know how I'm doing. At 40 I'm going to get concierge medicine and pay the extra $1500 a year fee for the extra tests. You owe it to your kids.

Fatal heart attack. Autopsy revealed severe atherosclerotic disease. He'd had high bp at a doc visit a few years back (last visit, it was a sick visit not a routine physical) but with no follow up it's hard to know more. And yes, I even found docs for him.

An annual physical would at least establish a baseline for your DH and could flag anything he should pay attention to.

He's about 20 lbs overweight and does not eat well and doesnt exercise. We have young kids. I'm trying to figure out why he is so resistant. HE is convinced because his dad is still healthy at 84 he will be too.

anyone have a recommendation for a good GP (dc or close in MD)

what else does he need at 50--stress test? colonoscopy? blood test for inflammation?
