Report doesn't come until August. I believe the last couple of weeks before the school year begins.

A child's score really means nothing. It's the cumulative of scores for the school.

There is a lower level than Proficient - I think it is Basic.

I've never paid much attention to it, but I'm pretty sure you get a report sometime during the summer. I think it just tends to say if your kid falls in proficient or advanced range in reading and math. I don't know what they call the level below proficient... basic, maybe?

Anyway, my understanding is it's mostly used as a gauge of the school and teachers. I don't know that matters much for individual children.

DC is in 3rd grade so this is our first experience with MSA testing. Will we get individual scores for our kid? Does the test have any effect on individual students or is it only to see how the school is performing? So far DC reports that the teachers haven't mentioned any tests that will happen next week.
