I agree with this approach. However, speaking of politics, it really bugged the shit out of me that they included Leni Riefenstahl the year that she died. Talk about tasteless. No point in honoring that hag.

(Then a couple of years later, they omitted Farrah Fawcett citing that they had too many people to include, so I definitely think politics comes into play.)

During the montage of recently deceased people in the film industry, the final image is usually saved for someone particularly noteworthy. Who will it be this year?
My heart wants it to be Roger Ebert. I feel a loss every Friday when the weekend movie reviews are published. No one writes like he did, made me want to see movies like he did or made me think about movies the way he did. But I worry because he was not a member of the academy so maybe they won't give him even a nod. That would actually make me really sad.

Other people. Peter o'toole, Ray Harryhausen. It won't be Phillip Seymour Hoffman or Harold Ramos, James gandolfini, Eileen Brennan, joan fontaine, although all will get a brief nod.

So who will it be and will ebert get a nod?
