Separately, please stop returning clothes after you wear them twice because you realize they are "too big". Presumably they were too big when you tried them on and bought them and took the tags off. This kind of total abuse of the retail system creates environmental waste and pushes up prices for the rest of us.

I have been wearing Lucky Jeans for 20 years and have never had this issue. Are you buying directly from the store or are you buying them off of Amazon/Zappos/some other random website? Because the one time I bought some off of Amazon, they were definitely either fake or seconds.

I used to work in the corporate part of a flash sale website (think Rue La La, etc.) and this was a big problem with some of our less-expensive, direct-from-wholesale stuff.

With items that weren’t jeans, we got a lot of stuff that smelled like kerosene and other chemicals. You would be sad to know the conditions a lot of this cheap clothing is made in- it’s a lot of rundown factories or people’s homes (for pattern cutting or finishing) and so clothing picks up whatever is going on there, including spilled kerosene from heaters, random chemicals, and cooking smells.

Jeans seem to be a particular problem and I don’t actually know why but my theory is that less expensive denim washes are achieved through processes that use a lot of water and not necessarily clean abrasives. Your jeans are picking up the local water smell and then sitting in gross conditions before they’re shipped, so they get that garbage-y weird funk to them. Denim is also slow to dry, so any moisture picked up in the shipping container is going to be absorbed and sit there while absorbing cardboard/plastic smells.

Me too! Bought 2 new pair of Lucky jeans. They smell terrible and I had washed them twice and once with vinegar and detergent and it’s still terrible. They stunk up everything in my suitcase even my sweaters a terrible experience. I had to wear my sweat pants on the trip to an appointment because the smell was so bad on the jeans. It’s ridiculous we’re suppose to try different ways to unstick new jeans and what the hell arnt we all trying to live healthy. I don’t think smelling chemicals is good

Sounds weird but I've always bought my jeans on Zappos and never had a scent problem. I'm wondering if it has more to do with storage?

I've had that happen with ON jeans. I couldn't get the smell out, so I returned them. I haven't had that issue with my Lucky's, but I make sure I smell jeans before I buy them now. That sounds weird, but the stink of the ON ones was so bad, I didn't want to take the chance again.

Yuck!! Maybe some Ho went commando in them and later returned them.

This happened to me with Banana Republic jeans. I washed them several times before wearing them.

My dh gets lucky jeans and I haven't noticed this as a problem with his.

Are yours dark?

What I want to know is, where is quality control? Do jeans makers really think we want to wear clothes that smelled like something died in them?

I have this problem with a pair of old navy jeans, and it isn't the first time it's happened.
I've used arm and hammer, I've soaked them in vinegar and water, etc. The only thing that helps a little is to use a strongn scented detergent, multiple dryer sheets, spraying with febreeze, and airing out in the sun. Even then, I can still smell it somewhat.

I was hoping that maybe it was just me that smelled them but last weekend we went out of town and my husband started complaining in the car at one point about how something smelled bad, and it turned out it was my jeans. And we were all stuck in the car with me for 3+ hours. My kids said they didn't smell it though but maybe they were just being nice. I would try to wash with vinegar or something but I'm afraid that might ruin them somehow and make them unreturnable.

I finally graduated from Gap and Old NAvy and bought myself a pair of lucky jeans, and they stink! I actually returned the first pair (both b/c they stunk and b/c they were too big) but the ones I replaced them with stink just as bad. I never washed the first pair b/c I realized quickly they were the wrong size, but I've washed this current pair twice and this smell just will not come out. I'm ready to return these too but wanted to check and see if others have experienced this and been able to get this horrendous smell out. I'm 42 years old and this is the first time I've experienced this. It's so weird. Not to mention gross. Thanks in advance!
