I wore what I would normally wear to work - nice trousers and a sweater. I served for a week on a criminal trial and I would have felt awful to treat that role with less respect than I treat my paper-pushing job. I recall my fellow jurors also being neatly attired. Some may well have worn jeans, but not as part of a sloppy or intentionally inappropriate outfit.

This is an abuse of power. Completely inappropriate to waste a citizen's time or effort on something so inconsequential. I'm absolutely opposed to judges who treat their courtrooms like personal fiefdoms.

Went last Tuesday, wore jeans and a jacket. Didn't get picked. Earned $4 and sat around for 6 hours...

I'm an attorney who has tried a good number of jury trials in DC superior. Jeans are totally fine -- in fact I wore jeans to jury duty myself. Personally I would do more of a "dressier" jean with something like boots and a nice sweater and a cute necklace rather than ratty jeans and sneakers, but truly you will see people there wearing everything from dirty sweats to a suit and tie. It's not worth trying to game the system by coming off a certain way bc you never know what the attorneys are actually looking for.

Trial lawyer here. You can wear anything you want to jury duty. I would say that jeans is the most common thing that people wear. I would suggest that you bring a sweater or sweatshirt because you will be sitting for long periods of time and sometimes the courts are cold.

As far as thinking that someone can get out of jury duty because of their outfit, I can honestly tell you that I give clothing almost no thought whatsoever. If you showed up in stained sweatpants, I'd figure you had a busy life and your morning started off rough - if I even noticed. I also don't think that jeans shows any sort of disrespect for the litigants. That's all some people own and certainly you shouldn't have to buy new clothes to serve on a jury.

To me, It seemed disrespectful to the people on trial to wear jeans, so I sucked it up and wore something a bit nicer.

I would wear stain-covered sweatpants and hope it would help me not get picked

Not unless the notice says so. I was as once picking a jury in NYS And The Judge sent everyone in jeans home to change. I know things have gotten do casual everywhere but at least wear pants. Jeans seem disrespectful to me but what do I know!

I don't think it'll make a difference one way or the other regarding getting picked, but yes, you can wear them.

DC. It is my every two year call for jury duty. Last time I wore work clothes and was picked.

Can I wear "nice"jeans and a sweater or is that not allowed? Yay civic duty and all but really would love to be sent home for good at the end of the day.
