I'm probably 2 sizes smaller than Lena, and don't have the confidence to wear a bikini. But I have nothing but respect for those that do, and rock it, or just can't be bothered to expend energy worrying about what others would thing. I wish I could do that!

I gave up after Season 2. It was all just so ludicrous. She is unwatchable (not because of weight or looks though - personality).

I agree with OP to the extent that she seemed like she was going out of her way to wear the bikini throughout the episode. If the whole beach house scene was not made for tv, would she have worn a bikini the whole time? Would she have made such a point to all her friends who already accepted her? It's just way too much even when Elijah saw her on the street and the whole predictable "fat girl" exchanges. She has gone beyond being provocative to just be ingratiating.

This last episode of girls, where she stays in an ill-fitting bikini the whole time, just smacks of "I'm making a statement". She's a good writer. She's a good actress. She needs to stop trying to prove a point because it really detracts from the show itself.
