It is literally the same thing. Hungarian paprika is paprika from Hungary. It tends to be high quality and tends to be more pungent and flavorful than other paprika. But I wonder if this PP is thinking if smoked paprika or something (which is also just paprika, but with a much more pronounced flavor).

ditto re: Penzey's. There's a spicy and less spicy version of paprika. I would buy a small quantity b/c it doesn't stay potent for long.

I have this at home. It tastes almost the same as my mcormick's paprika but a bit more flavorful. I found it at a healthy/religious store in Silver Spring.

The McCormick's paprika sold in the little canisters is not much more than a coloring agent, good for sprinkling on deviled eggs and such. For the real deal, try Spice House and Penzey's - they both sell good Hungarian paprika. You can sometimes find Hungarian paprika such as Pride of Szeged and Kalocsa in the spice aisle at grocery stores such as Wegmans. I've also seen it at the German Gourmet in Falls Church. There is no comparison between the color, aroma, and flavor of fresh, sweet Hungarian paprika and generic paprika.

Paprika is one of Hungary's most loved spices. I have Hungarian paprika in my cabinet because my family is from Hungary and they bring some when they visit . You should be fine with a good quality paprika but you can order online as well.

I found an interesting dish calling for Hungarian paprika. I have regular paprika and smoked paprika but in giant, safeway and whole foods can't find Hungarian paprika
