OP here- no I never posted about this before, although when I called my cousin for advice she was also lost for what exactly to say, so I guess these types of things are hard to write for a lot of people!

^^Ah, shucks. I'm an English teacher but I wouldn't mind doing something like this on the side. So much easier to write other people's cover letters, etc.

I like 20:37's tone and message and only have two minor additions.

You might also benefit from refreshing her memory (it's horrible to admit but it's hard to keep interns straight after a few months) and emphasizing not what you learned but what you contributed to the project or company...

In the summer of 20XX, I did Y and Z for you. I learned so much from you and felt I really made a difference on your project (if you can detail your contributions, you should. e.g. "I really improved your report with my research.") I see your company has an opening (provide URL).

Would you have a few minutes to tell me more about this opportunity?

Ok, here is the story: I was an intern for this organization, a couple of years ago. I think I did a very good job, and I got good feedback from the people there. I kept in touch with one of my supervisors, have her listed as a reference, and had a good rapport and feel pretty comfortable with her. The other one left for another org. but she was nice too. Anyway, I found a listing for a job opening for someone with my level of experience at this organization. I want to email this lady and essentially ask her if she knows the person who posted the job and if she can put in a good word for me, but I want to say it in a non-demanding way where she can gracefully say "no" if she doesn't want to. I feel like this is something I should already know, but I don't.
