Sorry, OP. I think FCPS really needs a 2E program-AAP for autism spectrum and ADHD kids who struggle in the big classes.

We have done social skills groups and he is seeing a psychiatrist. I think he needs new meds as part of the equation, but he needs a different educational setting also.

Yes. He's spending a lot of time outside the classroom and virtually no learning is happening. FWIW, the behavior problems started in November. The school year got off to a decent start, but then went downhill. He's getting very angry and refusing to do work. He was so excited about AAP, but it just hasn't worked for him. General Ed bores him and the pace is too slow. He really needs a small class with advanced instruction in a special education setting where the teachers are trained to work with students on the autism spectrum. That would be my dream placement.

I've compared his written work from last year and this year (his 1st in AAP) and he has regressed. It has been a wasted year. I would have kept him at his base school had I known what a disaster it would be.

Does his behavioral issues mean that he is removed from the classroom a lot? If he can't access the curriculum that would be your strongest argument. What county are u in?

If your kid is having behavioral issues, you might have trouble placing him in general. Have you tried therapy regarding the behavioral issues?
