I bought the cheapest refurbished one I could get (I think it was just under $300 about 4 years ago), and it's been great. It just has two settings (high and low), but it seems to do everything I need it to. We do normal blender stuff like sauces and smoothies, but I also grind flour and make nut butter and tahini with it, among other things. It's not as flashy as some of the newer ones, but it does the job!

We're happy with the 5200. Definitely get a refurbished one from Vitamix -- great deal. And several coupon codes for free shipping are available.

Go big or go home. We got the 750 - it is awesome! Absolutely worth the price. We've made soup, hot chocolate, lemon curd, cake mix, and tons of smoothies. Sure you can do this in others by turning the dial, but it is such a time saver to set it and forget it. I can use those few minutes to get other things done.
