CADD is art, on computer. It's an incredibly useful skill for her to learn. This is her decision.

Every kid I know who has taken that class loves it. It's hugely popular and it's not that rigorous. Getting the tech credit out of the way before HS will give your child lots of options once she gets to HS. There are tons of interesting classes and not enough time. I'd let her take it. Besides if she gets a bad grade, she can retake it in HS and we the higher grade. I'd let her make the decision here.

Thanks, great advice.

OP, you should also make sure she understands that any grade she gets in a credit course will count toward her high school GPA. So you definitely don't want to tackle those classes before you're ready for them.

Do art.

There will be plenty of time to get the tech credit done and if she's in Algebra 1 in 7nd grade she's on track to be in AB or BC Calculus by 11th. She will be very glad of the relatively easy tech class when she's in high school.

OP here, thanks for the advice. She is not very good in science but is a hard workers. I just hate her making this harder on herself than it needs to be. I wonder why this credit is so important to her.

I think your instincts are absolutely right... she should do what she loves and not stress about high school credits in 7th. But I also agree that it should be her decision in the end.

As much as I agree with you, I'd swallow hard and let her make the decision herself. She may be the kind of kid that will handle the load really well.

My DD signed up for CADD as her 7th grade elective. I said "but you don't even like computers or building things." She replied, "yes, but you can get HS technology credits." There is time for that later and she loves, loves, loves Art. Should I make her take the Art elective? She is putting WAY too much pressure on herself to take an elective for 2 years that she hates to get "High School Credit". She will already be taking Algebra and first year Foreign Language in 7th. She also plays two travel sports and will probably make her MS team for those next year. Am I crazy to want her to slow down when she doesn't seem to want to. She loves Art and she never played with legos nor any video games. I cannot image her not hating that class when I know she would love the other. Is it appropriate to be more forcefull, I have already suggested it several time but am not getting through. Or maybe I am just wrong and it is all her decision......
