What does Janie Strauss have to do with this issue? Pat Hynes seems to be the School Board member who is most vocal about expanding Local Level IV services to every middle school. It's what a lot of her constituents zoned for Thoreau want.

Or is it just an assumption on the part of some Cooper parents who want to stay at Longfellow and Kilmer that they could buy Strauss's replacement?

It seems fairly obvious this is transitional and that Cooper will be the only AAP option for students in that area in a few years.

Fine, just don't make it mandatory for those who would prefer the known quantity at Longfellow.

Very happy to hear this. Perhaps it will relieve some of the overcrowding at Kilmer, Jackson and Longfellow in a moderated fashion over a period of several years that won't leave people up in arms about being "pushed out" of an AAP center without much notice.

This will sway a few more and in time there will be a track record of success and then they can make both fully recognized AAP schools and all the Cooper and Thoreau students can go to Cooper and Thoreau.

Local Level IV implementation would need to meet the checklist, as initially identified as part of the GMU program review:

Do they actually have qualified teachers for those classes? If they really want to create a robust center quickly, they should send some teachers from Longfellow and Kilmer over, IMO.

So now it sounds like Thoreau, Cooper and Franklin will all have Local Level IV for Middle School. It is about time.
