I think that's right. Many families that apply for PK or K have no idea whether it is a good fit or not, so many apply that would know it's not the right school later on.

I was told 15 to 1 applicants per slot for K/pre-K slots about five years ago. Could have changed since then but that seemed accurate at that time from external evidence.

12:46 Lighten up. I for one am tired of people asking questions that can only truly be answered by an admissions office. It's not exactly public information. But if you ask, they might tell.

I think some of you are just too tense about the process. Its a joke. A pretty harmless one at that.

I get so tired of reading unhelpful comments like the troll's at 12:24. Suffice to say they are well over-subscribed and you would do well to have other options you would be happy with, just in case. I think it is likely true for each grade at Sidwell. We applied for 3rd grade, even after hearing that after siblings they would only have a few spots, just to give it a shot. Our daughter would go if accepted, but we know it's not going to happen so we applied elsewhere as well. Now we wait . . .

A recent article suggested an overall 7% admission rate. Factor in siblings/legacies/big names and I'd expect a much lower rate for the average applicant.

When I took my child to a playdate there a few years ago, I saw 30-35 nametags for PK, and another 30-35 nametags for K. I somehow figured out there were 6-7 playdate sessions that year, which led me to estimate 180-245 applicants for each grade who were committed enough to go through a Saturday morning playdate. Just a rough estimate, but the math suggests sobering odds.

Does anyone know who many applicants Sidwell has for their PK and/or K this year or in previous years? Thanks
