That's my name! I'm Margaret Elizabeth and have gone by Maggie since birth. I like having a classic name and when I was little, I enjoyed being the only Maggie, although I understand it's become a more popular name recently.

+1 It seems that many DCUM posters like "creative" names. Personally, I prefer traditional ones, so yes--I love Margaret, just as I also love Katharine and Elizabeth! If you prefer to call her Maggie, I think it's a very cute nickname but think calling her Margaret is great, too!

I think conservative areas of the country (like DC, New England, etc) are using it for their kids more than the west coast or flyover country.

It's my Mom's middle name and my niece's middle name. My Mom has always gone by a nickname, though.

Margaret is making a comeback akin to Eleanor, etc. I think you'll be surprised how many little Maggie's there are.

It's borderline old lady, but I put Margaret in the Elizabeth/Katherine category - a name that spans multiple generations. Maggie makes it sound less "old ladyish"

I love the name, and I know of two 6-year old Margarets in the area so it's not unheard of for little girls these days.

I kind of have that feeling, but know a bunch of Margaret's, including my own kid (though most are nicknamed I think.). So while *our* generation thinks of it as an old lady name / our grandparents generation, it's probable that the generation of current babies/young kids will not have that impression.

Hmm. My dd attends Catholic school and I've lost track of all the Margarets/Maggies. I think she has like 5 just in her grade. But not sure that you're catholic.

yes, I think it is an old lady name, along the same line as Hazel and Gertrude. Sorry, just my opinion.

But, my best friend named her DD the same with Maggie as a nickname. It sort of grew on me, but I still think it is an old lady name (she was named after my friend's grandmother)
