I'm surprised that people are finding middle school boring for their kids. I thought it was pretty great. They were exposed to just about every sport I can thing of during PE class. The health classes were so on point when it came to social issues. The science curriculum was incredible - the quarter where class was like a CSI lab, the unit on hydroponics. They learned to build robots. The social studies units about Rome and China and some of the others were great. And, the reading assignments in English were engaging. I'm excited that my next kid is hitting MS next year and I get to experience it again.

I have also heard good things about Pyle (from a friend who took one child out of private for Pyle).

Do you have boys?
What is the issue?
Private may not solve the problem.
We went private but reevaluate yearly.

I find K-3 is pretty good for most (except active boys)

4-5 is on a case by case basis depending on learning needs

I find middle school is just okay, in many ways frustrating, but sucks socially for many... private can help with these years

HS really depends on the child. You will most likely like your W HS (especially if you have a strong middle school experience) if there are no learning issues or social issues. It is especially good if your kids are gifted. Can be frustrating if you child is struggling then a smaller private may be good. If you have to factor in sports it can get complicated.

In our experience, no. We moved to Fairfax County.

Is your son in all advanced classes? My son may not be super challenged but it is ok. He is in the one grade ahead math class and all his other classes are "advanced."

My son is doing great with algebra. What are you concerns op?

I like our MCPS elementary school and 2.0.
It is not perfect, but I don't know what curriculum is perfect.

The 2.0 problems are now moving into middle school. Algebra is a disaster.

I'm very happy with our non-Bethesda, non-W-zone MCPS elementary school.
