I thought Sidwell had classes

You need to talk with your guidance counselor. When I was in high school, I could take local community college courses for credit but only in my senior year and only if I was done with all my graduation requirements.

We live just outside of the Northern VA area (near Culpeper,VA) and my public high school student would like to take one or two classes this summer for academic credit to transfer back to his school. We will need to check with the guidance counselor about the credit issue, but know of a student who took a math class online over the summer and his (private) school accepted the credits. My son doesn't want to take a class online -- his strong preference is a regular classroom setting. He would like to take Trigonometry, Biology, or World History (or possibly World History AP).

He was very sick for half the school year last year and is now about a semester behind in his high school credits. The plan is for him to graduate with the class below his, but he would rather catch up. Does anyone know of local schools or programs where high school students can take summer school classes and take Virginia SOL's to receive credit? We are willing to drive anywhere within the DC/Northern VA region for the classes. The cost is not really a factor because this is something my son really wants to do if such programs exist.

Our county only offers summer school for certain subjects, and only for students who failed the class during the regular school year. We would prefer to find classes for high school students, but will look into community college classes.

I am cross-posting this under "College Discussion" because there haven't been many responses on the "Older Kids and Teens" forum and hopefully families preparing for teens to attend college will also provide some additional suggestions.
