Ahem. A POEM:

I'm in a panic
Am I MANIFESTLY Hispanic?
Latino enough
To be the right stuff?

The end.

Had parents reach out to us from two schools, but it was after acceptances before we made our decision. (We are a white, non-connected, somewhat "normal" family)

To piggy back on 17:08, two AA moms at a recent activity were sitting next to me discussing the fact that well prepared children of color from their preschool were being "recruited if they do well on the test" and were "highly sought after" and offered "scholarships" at "fancy private schools because they don't have much diversity."

A PP has a child waitlisted at Maret the first week of February?

we have applied to a number of schools in the past years for DC. Some schools do this to make applicants less anxious and answer questions from a parents perspective. The schools that did this were mostly the smaller schools.

Do not read anything negative or positive. It is just part of the schools internal application process.

Great. Now I am worried because I have not gotten any calls.

My kids' private does this, but usually after acceptance letters are sent. It is a courtesy for the prospective families who may have questions for current parents. I've not heard of it being done before letters were sent out so I 'm not sure what to make of it. However, if you're getting calls from several schools I wouldn't necessarily assume that it is good news - maybe just a current trend being done by the admissions offices.

OP, here. Thanks, all. One is what I would call small. The others aren't particularly small and are mentioned on these boards with regularity.

OP, are you applying to small schools?

I have never heard of this, or had it happen to me, so that might be a good sign.

Some do, some don't. I wouldn't read too much into it.

What schools? We've never had anyone do this from GDS, Sidwell or Beauvoir (despite getting acceptances for at least one child from each) don't know about Maret, DC's wait listed there.

We applied for kindergarten at several local schools. Over the past few weeks, we've had a number of current parents at the different schools reach out to us, via email and phone calls, asking if we have any questions.

Do the schools have current parents reach out to all applicant families or might this be an encouraging sign?
