I crossed paths with Johnson at TPMS and didn't feel the way you did. She pandered to some parents and was downright hostile to others.

From waht I've heard she has taken that philosophy to Blair. I am not surprised that her supporters think her use of social media is a "great role model for CAP students." The bad English certainly supports the theory that standards are going down.

Seriously, don't think lauding Johnson as a role model makes Blair programs, particularly CAP attractive to anyone.

Let's at least be accurate. It's not a union. It's the local affiliate of the National Board Certified Teachers Network, an organization that advocates for standards in the profession.

We crossed paths with Renay Johnson years ago when she was principal at Takoma Park MS. She was a dynamic administrator and the TPMS magnet thrived under her leadership. I am not at all surprised she won an award.

As for her use of social media, it makes her a great role model for her CAP students.

SIGH. Do successful male principals get bashed for "self-promotion" when they win awards? I don't think so. And if you don't have any specific complaint about the Blair principal's administrative skills, why do you care if she's an effective communicator using modern media tools?

Seriously? She engages with people who seem to have something to promote. Little evidence of concrete engagement.

My DS' principal is very accessible and engaging. Doesn't need social media and self promotion.

It seems that you think Poolesville is a huge competitor for Blair. Get over it-----------IT IS NOT. Those zoned for Poolesville can't go to Blair and those zoned for Blair cannot attnd Poolesville. Blair has nothnig to do with Poolesville and Poolesville has nothing to do with Blair.

I don't really care if it's a union award or not (I am fairly neutral about teacher's unions & figure that if they picked someone from the entire county to win an award, it's probably a measure of merit - unlike your derisive, she's-a-self-promoter comment which has no basis other than some apparent luddite fear of modern technology). Hey now!! So, we measure how "great principals" are by their use of social media? The union gave her an award. How does that prove anything about her being great?

Been looking at Blair High School and noticed that the principal Renee Johnson is tweeting a lot about herself. She is tweeting that she was awarded best principal and then retweeting tweets from other people who congratulated her.

It is sad to see a principal who is so hell bent on self promotion.
