Just because another parent is not responsible, it is doesn't mean you shouldn't be. Do it together and make it clear you check the device for unauthorized use. Our apps downloads are closed as is our internet and we change the internet password regularly. We have made it clear the internet will get disconnected (pull the plug from the router when they are not looking) if they abuse it.

Op- that is what we have now -- we download apps together when she asks. And certainly, she needs the pasword. But since a lot of kids apparently have no such restrictions on either their tablets or their iPods, I was hoping to hear from parents who are ok with leaving it open -- the other point if view. Specifically, about:

- apps downloads
- Internet

When are you ok with enabling a network connection on your child's tablet?

Dd is almost 9, and we tried the FreeTime app on kindle with little success. At this point, the main control I have is no network, I.e. No apps download, no purchases, no web and social media.

She swears her friends can download apps. I can't see how that could be appropriate. Am I being paranoid? If your kid hs internet access, how do you make sure the contents is ok? By that I mean well behaved apps that don't steal information, nothing adult, no violence etc...

At this age, she's not even old enough to understand what she should avoid...
