I was referring to the MCCIRA Young Authors' Contest - the e-mail had a chart listing 2 winners from each grade, 2nd - 8th grades. All participants (even if they only submitted a poem or story and didn't win) are invited to the March reception with the "racy" author.

Participation reception. Just like participation trophies in soccer so everyone will feel good. Load of crap.

I received the same email. The attached invitation for the celebration was formatted so that I couldn't view the text-- it was a writable document and I had to mess around with it to get the actual words to appear.
My child's poem was chosen as the winner for her grade at her school, but did not win the countywide contest for her grade. I figured that was why we got the email. At any rate, we can't attend the celebration.

Disagree. We may be describing a different competition.

Scholastic art and writing awards are for 7th to 12th graders in the DC region. Second to 4th graders are ineligible thus receive neither awards nor ceremony invitations.

Agree about the author! Also agree that the email was very poorly written! Irony indeed!

the reception is in honor of those who won, but everyone who participated (submitted a story or poem) is also invited to the reception.

Did you check out the author featured at the reception?

A little racy, in my mind not too appropriate for 2nd-4th grade boys, at any rate. Seems like she writes more for teenage girls who've already hit puberty....

Kind of ironic for a writing contest that the email was so poorly written.

They included a list of winners, but they had confusing wording about winners at the school level being invited to a reception. it wasn't very clear.

My ds submitted a short story for the writing contest. Today I get an email from the MCPS contest person (mass mailing) and the subject t line was "contest winners and invitation.". Of course I assumed my son won something. But when I read the email, there was an attachment listing the winners - he wasn't one. But then it said that winners from the schools were invited to a reception - that invite was included. Does that mean he won for his class/school? Confused. It was poorly written - like a "you may be a winner" sweepstakes. Anyone else confused?
