Where is he learning math then?

I always thought my child was very bright. He always tested really well for his home school. He is now in 4th grade at HGC. Grades are strong but parent conference was humbling. My son's awesome teacher (wish I could come back as a 4th grader at his center) showed me the center breakdown for scores. My son is very bright. But I realize now he is far from brilliant. There are some incredibly bright kids in MCPS.

What do you mean she showed you the center breakdown for scores? That is, what does "center breakdown for scores" mean?

And you believe your child when he says this?

I am constantly hearing from my kid that my kid hasn't learned anything in school. But in fact my kid has. (At a "not top" and "not highly ranked" upcounty ES.)

Enrichment means they are being taught extra concepts, which may or may not put them ahead in the upper grade school levels.

DC's grade 3 report card has a line in the math section stating that "your child was consistently instructed on the content and processes of the grade level with enrichment/acceleration."

I may be incorrect, but in a conversation with my friend, who is an upper grade MCPS ES teacher, I was told that this means when enrichment groups were pulled, your child was a part of the group something like at least 70% of the time. So not everyone should have that on their report.

Funny thing though, I have twins in third grade and one is received "enriched" math and the other "on grade level" according to their report cards. However, they are doing exactly the same work in class and on homework. The advanced kid is being tested for compacted math...that appears to be the only difference. Sad, but true.

How is my child’s mathematics instructional level reported?

A statement will appear below the mathematics Measurement Topic box on the Grades K–3 report cards. The statement will provide additional information regarding mathematics instruction throughout the marking period.

Your child was consistently instructed on the content and processes of the grade level

or

Your child was consistently instructed on the content and processes of the grade level with enrichment/acceleration.

My third graders doesn't have the part about the enrichment or acceleration. He is in the top group. scores in mid 230s on MAP-M and is being tested for compacted math so if there was some acceleration to be had he would be getting it. Pity though, there is none available to him.

DC's grade 3 report card has a line in the math section stating that "your child was consistently instructed on the content and processes of the grade level with enrichment/acceleration." Does anyone know if this is standard language in all report cards? As far as I know DC isn't getting any enrichment or acceleration in math but perhaps I'm just unaware. I don't want to ask the teacher if this appears to be generic info.
