Most schools do not give 100% aid.

There are many, many more costs associated with private school besides the tuition. Take into account before and after care costs, child care on closed days, different vacation cycles from public school, longer summer vacations which equal more need for summer camps/summer care, annual giving and fundraisers, teacher gifts throughout the year, volunteer requests, school supplies, etc

This is why in the end I still went public. I got a decent aid package (as a single mom making 115k so DEFINITELY apply) and tuition was only going to be 7k out of pocket BUT the summer was longer, the fundraisers were intimating and aftercare was more expensive comparatively to our local public. Also the private didn't have busing so that was a factor as well as a single mom being solely responsible for pick ups and drop offs.

What was the full tuition without any discount?

You can have a pretty high income and qualify for at least some aid. I think the sticker price at some schools exists in case someone extremely wealthy happens to want to send their kid there. I could see someone with twice the HHI as OP getting some aid, so I don't see the downside of OP appliyng. Its certainly not offensive to do so.

A few months ago, someone opened a thread asking whether they should apply for financial aid with their $300K a year.

Go ahead and apply.

And if I recall, that same someone couldn't understand and was quite mad about the fact that $300K would eliminate their ability to get needs based aid.

I know someone who has a 225k income and gets partial financial aid from one of the particularly expensive privates. And not that it is an exact comparison, but my synagogue has reduced membership for people with twice your HHI. I would definitely apply.

You are a 2 income family making $60k?

Yes. You will qualify, unless you have a $3m home that is paid off.

If you don't get many responses I recommend you post in the private school forum. They may know.

No, you should apply for financial aid. Catholic schools are under $20K but most typical privates are above $20K. So, on an income of 60K, you would need financial aid in order to satisfy all your other expenses. And, even with financial aid, which may not be full tuition aid, it might be really tight. You should think seriously before committing to private school.

For various reasons, I would like to send my child to this particular private school next year. There's no way I can afford the tuition, but they offer financial assistance for those who qualify. Would I look ridiculous applying for FA on a 70k income? I'm far from poor, just don't have thousands of dollars a year in the budget for high school tuition.
