Silver Spring - Oakland Terrace & Flora Singer are terrific schools. This is the area near Forest Glenn Metro.

I think this is very dependent on your budget and what type of home you want- small house, townhouse, larger home, walkability, etc...

Another vote for either the town of Kensington or Parkwood. It's an ok commute to NW DC and not far from Rockville. It's not snobby and there is a nice vibe here. People live in small 600 - 700K homes or bigger, more expensive tear-downs.

NP--I work in Bethesda and DH in downtown DC. We live in King Farm/Rockville. College Gardens and Beall are good elementary school districts with some homes within walking distance to the Metro.

Agree, a commute from the Kentlands, or the QO area (as other posters have suggested) will be killer down to NW DC unless she leaves at 6 a.m.

Rockville in the Fallsmead or Lakewood area is nice, and close to 270.

You heard wrong. You attend your home school unless your kid is in a magnet program and has to be buses. That does not appear to the case with you. I'd stay away from Silver Spring. The west side of Gaithersburg would be your best choice. Make sure that your realtor guarantees that you are in the Quince Orchard High School sector. NOT in the Gaithersburg High School feeder schools.

You can't enroll your kid in any county school. There are some exceptions (e.g. magnet programs), but for the most part, you are assigned to the schools where you live.

I would suggest Silver Spring (in between Rockville and DC) and more affordable.

What's your budget? You're school will be determined by where you live. You can't enroll your kid in any school in the county. If you are new to this area, however, you wouldn't want to enroll you kid somewhere else in the county - it is h.u.g.e!!! you'd be driving forever. Just choose an area where you like the schools.
